Owner of Freestate Gymnastics
Mr Bob always had a love for gymnastic activities but didn’t have the opportunity for advanced training until attending University as there were no dedicated gymnastic facilities in Maryland before the 1970’s. He started teaching gymnastics in rec centers In 1971 while a freshman on the University of Maryland’s Gymkana Troupe and later elected the Troupe’s treasurer (once), President (twice) and voted Best Trouper (once a Best Trouper, always a Best Trouper). Mr Bob’s first trampoline competition was in 1972, hosted by the Alts in New Jersey where he was one of 2 Elite level bouncers. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Physical Education.
Mr Bob worked continuously in recreation centers and local camps and was the director of the popular 200 kids and 4 days a week gymnastic program at the Jewish Community Center in Rockville from 1973–75. He then moved and worked through 1985 at the Prince Georges Gymnastics Club— a dedicated gymnastic facility sponsored by the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission which has since become the gymnastics wing of the Fairland Athletic complex in Laurel, MD.
While his principal job with M–NCPPC was teaching classes and coaching the artistic girls team, beginner thru Elite international competitor, he also held an artistic women’s judges rating, started their boys team program and was the meet director for literally dozens of local artistic meets each year as well as Sectional, League and State Championship meets. Assigned to act as the Park and Planning Commission’s Trampoline Safety Officer he wrote their Trampoline Safety Manual, conducted training clinics, inspected facilities and interviewed all new tramp coach hires at the many community centers who wanted tramp programs.
Married Miss Linda in 1985 and ten years later they had 5 future Junior Olympic champion boys of their own, had moved to Gaithersburg and in 1996 bought FreeState Gymnastics where they added a Trampoline and Tumbling Team to the program and have taken young athletes to State, Regional and National Championships every year since.
Mr Bob holds the International Judge Brevet rating in all 3 disciplines associated with Trampoline and Tumbling and currently serves as USA Gymnastics Region 6 Chairman for Trampoline and Tumbling programs in the 14 States of the mid–Atlantic and New England.
